Dr Peter Varelis is the applications manager with Shimadzu Scientific Australia. Prior to joining Shimadzu, he was a principal scientist and team leader at Food Standards Australia New Zealand. He trained as an organic chemist and has more than 20 years of research experience in both government and industry. Peter’s extensive career has included senior academic positions at the University of Ballarat and Illinois Institute of Technology, a senior research scientist at Fonterra, and principal scientist at the Commonwealth Scientific Industrial Research Organization. He was also on an Elsevier editorial board (Food Chemistry and Analysis). His current research interest is the application of mass spectrometry to investigate organic compounds that have implications for human health and nutrition.
