**Jonathan J. Grandy** is a PhD candidate from Professor Pawliszyn's Research Group of the University of Waterloo, Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. His primary research involves the design, development and initial validation of field portable, microextraction-based sample preparation technologies. Although his research has generally targeted organic, anthropogenic contaminants found in environmental, air and water samples he has assisted in the design and deployment of SPME-based samplers for use with ROV submersible submarines to accomplish the biochemical analysis of hydrothermal vents.
