Courtney Tanabe received her B.S. in Chemistry from Oregon State University in 2012, and her Masters in Forensic Chemistry University of California, Davis in 2015. Currently, Courtney is a Phd student at the University of California, Davis in the Viticulture and Enology Department. Her work centers around food forensics and is currently focused on applying atomic spectroscopy techniques in her analysis of wine.

Dr. Jenny Nelson is currently an Atomic Spectroscopy Application Scientist for the Segment Marketing team at Agilent Technologies and also an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Viticulture and Enology at University of California, Davis. She has broad knowledge and experience in different speciation analysis for many sample matrices using GC–ICP-MS and LC-ICP-MS.

Elemental profiling using ICP-MS, ICP-OES, and MP-AES has been proposed as an approach for geographic authentication of various foods and beverages. Using these approaches, we have demonstrated that the elemental profiles of coffee beans, wine, and whiskeys vary across a range of geographic scales (i.e., across different countries, and different regions within a country or state).
