The Speaker
Dr M. Salim Alam is a research fellow in Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Birmingham, UK. He completed his Ph.D. (2011) in the gas phase reactions of alkenes and ozone in the troposphere – conducting a series of chamber experiments in EUPHORE, Valencia, using CIR–TOF MS and FTIR to measure VOC/OVOC, and PERCA and LIF systems to measure atmospheric radical species. Dr Alam has since been the lead researcher in various projects measuring key pollutants from various sources in the atmosphere using GC–MS and GC×GC–TOF-MS. His current work focuses on the characterisation of nanoparticles and SVOCs present in vehicle exhaust emissions using GC×GC coupled to variable-ionisation TOF MS.
